Reading - "The Cricket in Times Square" (4.RL.1 / 4.L.4)
This week, students will read the fantasy text, "The Cricket in Times Square." Students will monitor their comprehension, define vocabulary terms, visualize the text while they read, and identify the theme. The theme in a fable or fantasy story may be expressed as the more or lesson learned in story. To identify the theme, look for clues in the story about the characters. Visualize (picture in your head) and think about what the characters say and do and what happens as a result. Then, think about what lesson or message, the author wants readers to learn.

Students will continue to work daily in their learning centers to focus on reading comprehension, word work for spelling and vocabulary, writing, and reading non-fiction text on the program, Kidbiz3000.
Grammar - Pronouns (4.L.1)
This week, students will continue to learn about pronouns. A pronoun is a word that takes place of one or more nouns. A pronoun must match the noun it refers to. There are singular and plural pronouns.
Math - Customary Units of Measurements
This week, students will be converting metric units of measurement. Students will need to understand that when converting a LARGER unit to a SMALLER unit, MULTIPLY. When converting from a SMALLER unit to a LARGER unit, DIVIDE.
Homework
Students will have 4.MD.1 homework each night.

Spelling - (4.L.2)
This week students are identifying and spelling words with inflectional endings. Words with inflectional endings and -ed or -ing added to the ending. When you add -ed or -ing to a word, sometimes you have to add or drop a letter before adding the ending. If the word has a short vowel sound and ends in a single consonant, double to last letter before adding the ending. If the word ends in e, drop the e, before adding the ending. Here is the list of words this week: tasted, ripping, forced, flipping, tapped, flipped, scared, flagged, ripped, skipped, tapping, saved, skipping, scaring, flagging, discussed, saving, tasting, forcing, discussing, bedspread, desktop, snowstorm
Students will be assessed on their spelling words on Thursday, 12/18.
A homework page is assigned each night for spelling practice and word recognition.

This week, students will continue to create their ABC book of information they learned about the Southeast region of the United States.
