Reading - "Me and Uncle Romie" (4.RL.1 / 4.L.4)
This week, students will read the fiction text, "Me and Uncle Romie" Students will monitor their comprehension, define vocabulary terms, visualize the text while they read, and identify story elements. Story elements are the characters, setting, and plot of a text. The characters are the people who are in the story. A story often describes the interaction of characters, including their relationships and changes they undergo. The setting is when and where the story takes place. The plot is what happens in the story, or the sequence of events.
Weekly Vocabulary Terms -
Students will continue to work daily in their learning centers to focus on reading comprehension, word work for spelling and vocabulary, writing, and reading non-fiction text on the program, Kidbiz3000.
Grammar - Pronouns (4.L.1)
This week, students will be learning about pronouns. A pronoun is a word that takes place of one or more nouns. A pronoun must match the noun it refers to. There are singular and plural pronouns.
Math - Customary Units of Measurements
This week, students will be converting units of measurement, including time, length, capacity, and weight. Students will need to understand that when converting a LARGER unit to a SMALLER unit, MULTIPLY. When converting from a SMALLER unit to a LARGER unit, DIVIDE.
Homework
Students will have 4.MD.1 homework each night.

Writing - "Goldilocks & The Three Bears" Persuasive Essay
Spelling - Compound Words (4.L.2)
This week students are spelling compound words. A compound word is made up of two short words. The two words together make a new word with a new meaning. Here is the list of words this week: fishbowl, lookout, backyard, desktop, campfire, overhead, waterproof, grandparent, railroad, snowstorm, loudspeaker, bookcase, bedroom, blindfold, newborn, bedspread, yourself, overdo, clothesline, undertake, dresses, arrows, babies, * eyesight, * paperweight
Students will be assessed on their spelling words on Friday, 12/12.
A homework page is assigned each night for spelling practice and word recognition. Challenge work is due on the day of the test.
